Unknown Path (2022) String Orchestra (grade 3)

Unknown Path was commissioned by the Yellow Springs Youth Orchestra Association for the Yellow Spring High School/McKinney Middle School Orchestra’s performance at the Wright State University’s “Silver Melted into Sound” Festival. The piece depicts adventurers travelling into the unknown and the sense of mystery, awe, and excitement that follow.

Reminiscence (2018) Symphonic Band (grade 4.5)

Reminiscence was commissioned by the Minooka Community High School Band Boosters, students, and alumni to commemorate the retirement of director Richard Anderson. As an alumnus, I was honored to be asked to compose this piece. Mr. Anderson played a pivotal role in my decision to pursue music as a profession. He was also incredibly supportive and was always willing to give feedback on my early compositions. I would not be where I am today without him. The first half of the piece is reflective. I used a lyrical theme with shimmery harmonies to create a sense of memory. The second half is celebratory, featuring a fanfare.

Performance (Premiere): 5/10/18 by the Minooka Community High School Wind Ensemble (after only 2 secret rehearsals) with the composer (Stephanie Pieczynski) conducting.

Three Night Pieces for Chamber Orchestra (2015)

Three Night Pieces for Chamber Orchestra was designed to be performed either as separate pieces or as a whole work. It was composed with different qualities of the evening as inspiration. With each piece, I aim to portray a unique nighttime environment, utilizing various orchestration possibilities within the ensemble and extracting fragments of Romantic poetry by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Alfred Tennyson for titles. This piece was written as my doctoral dissertation.
